Michigan State Set to Hire New Football Coach

Multiple sources are reporting that Michigan State University will hire Colorado's Mel Tucker as their new head football coach.

It is thought that Tucker is one of several candidates that initially turned the job down. He confirmed Michigan State's interest and his initial decision on Twitter on Saturday afternoon.

Tucker played football at the University of Wisconsin. He began his coaching career in 1997 as a graduate assistant for Nick Saban at Michigan State. He spent time as an assistant at Miami of Ohio, LSU and Ohio State before moving to the NFL for 10 years.

Tucker returned to college football as an assistant coach at Alabama in 2015. Next, he moved to Georgia for three years, then was named head coach at Colorado last year. Colorado finished 5-7.

An official announcement of the hiring of Tucker is expected this afternoon as the Michigan State Board of Trustees holds a special meeting at 3:00 p.m.
