Let me begin this by admitting that I never knew there were this many types of french fries.

I kind of feel like Forrest Gump's friend Bubba recalling all the different kinds of ways to prepare shrimp, only with french fries.

You see, you got your waffle fries, crinkle cut fries, shoestring fries, steak fries and tater tots (WAIT, what?!)

Yeah, apparently tater tots are considered french fries by some less disciplined people than my self.

Zippia took a deep dive into the various popular forms of fries on a state by state basis. The big winner? Waffle fries -- coming in at number one in 12 different states and cheese fries also winning 12 states.

Here in the Mitten State, crinkle cut fries came in at number one. The only other state to agree with us was Kentucky.

Seven states thought tater tots were fries, which means it's time to kick them out of the Union.

And poutine didn't even make the list anywhere, which kind of makes it invalid.
