Is Michigan Home To The Popular 7-Eleven Slurpee?
Growing up in Michigan one of my favorite things to do was grab a 7/11 Slurpee.
Sometimes I would go with the red cherry or blue raspberry. Of course, you can never go wrong with the old-school Coke Slurpee.
What Is A Slurpee
A Slurpee is a carbonated slushie brand that was originally sold at 7/11 and is now available at A-Plus convince stores and Speedway convenience stores and gas stations which are also owned by 7/11.
Is The Slurpee From Michigan?
Growing up I was under the impression that the Slurpee was created in Michigan but after digging into It I found out that according to CNN the Slurpee was accidentally created in the late 1950s by Omar Knedlik of Kansas City.
When his soda fountain went out, he put some bottles in the freezer to stay cool. However, when he popped the top, they were a little frozen and slushy. Folks loved them and started requesting "those pops that were in a little bit longer."
Several years later in 1965 Omar was building these ICEE machines and selling them to convenience stores. 7-Eleven licensed the ICEE machine and made it unique to them by calling it a Slurpee.
How Did The Slurpee Get Its Name
Bob Stanford, a 7-Eleven ad agency director came up with the name Slurpee when he described the sound made while sipping it through a straw.
What Flavors Does A Slurpee Come In
The Slurpee comes in many tasty flavors, with the most popular being cherry and coke. Which combined sounds absolutely amazing!
