Travis Trice had 23 points, including three three-pointers, and Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Michigan State past Virginia 60-54 on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in Charlotte.

The seventh-seeded Spartans (25-11) advanced to the East Region's Sweet 16 with the triumph.

Second-seeded Virginia (30-4), which also lost to MSU in the tournament last year, got 11 points from Anthony Gill and 10 points and 14 rebounds from Darion Atkins.

The Spartans play the winner of the Oklahoma-Dayton game in Syracuse, N.Y., on Friday. Michigan State is in the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in the last eight years.
