Legendary Michigan PGA Golf Course To Add a Kids Course Soon
There’s nothing like getting absolutely humbled by a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course to make you wish you were golfing somewhere a little more forgiving.
(Been there, done that, still have the PTSD to show from it.)
Luckily for those of us who occasionally get our tail kicked by Harbor Shores’ championship-level 18-hole course, there’s something new coming that’s built for kids (and maybe perfect for us “seasoned” golfers too.)
Harbor Shores Resort, home to one of just three Nicklaus Signature Courses in Michigan, is gearing up to break ground on a brand-new nine-hole “Wee Course” designed with families and young players in mind.
Each hole will clock in at 60 yards or less, giving young golfers a place to learn the game, and giving the rest of us a much-needed break from the big leagues.
The pitch-and-putt experience will cover five acres and could open for preview play as early as this fall. Even cooler? The course is being designed by Hall of Famer and former KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion Colin Montgomerie, who knows the big course very well.
But don’t think this is just for kids. The Wee Course will be perfect for practicing your short game, getting in a quick round with the family (nine holes in under an hour!), or sneaking in a few swings after dark because he whole thing will be lit for night play.
It’s not the only expansion they’ll be seeing, there will be a new 18-hole putting course coming too, inspired by the legendary layouts at St. Andrews and Pinehurst.

So while Harbor Shores may be terrifying on a good day for most of us, they’re at least working to make it a little easier to stomach for the younger golfers and families out there.
