West Michigan's Spectrum Health has announced new visitor restrictions as COVID-19 cases surge in the area.

The hospitals announced the new restrictions Tuesday, November 23, 2021, explaining that many of their facilities are near capacity.

How many visitors will be allowed per patient at Spectrum Health

Until further notice, adult patients will only be allowed one visitor in the following areas of the hospitals: all inpatient rooms, all emergency departments, urgent care facilities, walk-in clinics, surgery, radiology, and lab locations, and labor and delivery. The visitor can be a different person each day.

However, if the patient is an adult COVID patient, they are allowed one adult visitor, who must be the same person throughout the patient’s stay and must follow personal protective equipment guidelines.

Children who are patients will be allowed two adult visitors. (Except for those in the radiology department, who will only be allowed one visitor.) Again, inpatient pediatric patients' visitors will have to be the same two people for the duration of their stay.

Pediatric COVID-19 patients are allowed two adult visitors, who must be the same people throughout the patient’s stay and must follow personal protective equipment guidelines.

What to expect when you are visiting a patient at Spectrum Health

All visitors will receive a complete health screening upon arriving at Spectrum Health facilities. Visitors will also be asked to remove the masks that they arrived wearing and instead put on a Spectrum Health-supplied mask. Visitors will only be allowed between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
