It might be Valentine's week, but not everyone is feeling the love.

If you're thinking it's time to "untie the knot" a Michigan attorney is giving away a free divorce.

When is Prime Time for Divorce?

It's a good time for a contest offering up a free divorce, as more people tend to split up this time of year. Why is that?

“Divorce is seasonal,” Vicky Townsend, co-founder and chief executive of the National Association of Divorce Professionals, tells the New York Times. She says that often people put off divorcing until after the holidays. So once Christmas and New Year's are done, people may be thinking, "Its’s a new year, new you, new start," Townsend said, "The holidays are over, and I’m not going into this year as miserable as I was last year."

While Valentine's Day can be a day for happy couples to celebrate their love, it can be reminder to unhappy couples how NOT in love they are.

Win a Free Divorce from This Michigan Lawyer

Goldman & Associates Law Firm of Troy, Mich. are the attorneys behind the divorce giveaway.

Founder of the firm, Akiva Goldman, talked with Fox 17 about the timing of the contest:

It’s not love that’s in the air. It’s romantic opportunity. When you're married to someone who you haven't seen in five years, you have lost the opportunity. The divorce giveaway gives you back the opportunity. That's what we're talking about.

Divorces can be costly and Goldman says this is the law firm's way of giving back,

We’re Michiganders. We’re people from the Midwest. We help each other. We try to give something back. These were times when everybody needed a hand in one way or another. We just decided, you know what, this is what we can do.
