Real Seafood Co. Opening Downtown Grand Rapids Instead of Brazilian Steakhouse

In August we told you that plans had changed for the property at 141 Lyon St. NW downtown Grand Rapids.

Back in 2019 it was announced that Texas de Brazil, a steakhouse with a huge variety of grilled meats and a salad bar, would be opening in the redeveloped Fifth Third Center on Lyon Street...

And well, then the pandemic happened. According to Wood TV 8, Texas de Brazil "couldn’t move forward with the buildout... It was a casualty of COVID."

Opening instead on Lyon St. will be Real Seafood Co., "a contemporary seafood restaurant that offers premium fresh fish and seafood from the waters of New England to the Great Lakes and to the Gulf of Mexico".

This will be Real Seafood Co.'s fifth location and first in West Michigan. There are restaurants in Ann Arbor and Bay City, and also Toledo, Ohio, and Naples, Florida. The parent company is no stranger to Grand Rapids though, Mainstreet Ventures Restaurant Group also owns Chop House and Palio in Grand Rapids.

When Will Real Seafood Co. Downtown Grand Rapids Open?

While the new restaurant has not shared an exact opening date yet, according to downtown Grand Rapids Inc., Real Seafood Co. is expected to open in May.

What Kind of Food Does Real Seafood Co. Serve?

The restaurant says they serve "quite simply, seafood as it should be."

Real Seafood Co. shared a preview of one of the items that will be on their menu: Tuna Tartar.

While it's not guaranteed that the menu will be the same, the Real Seafood Co. in Bay City serves appetizers like house-smoked fish dip, dynamite shrimp, and spicy calamari. Entrees include swordfish, scallops, jambalaya, seafood alfredo, crab legs, lobster tail, Wagyu steak, and Chilean sea bass. There's also sandwiches, soup and salad, and desert. There's a full bar too, including cocktails, beer, and wine.
