Record Setting Cat Painting Sells For $826 Thousand

Someone actually spent $826,000 on a 227 pound cat painting called “My Wife’s Lovers” by artist Artist Carl Kahler.

The painting features forty-two of Kate Birdsall Johnson’s cats but she owned three hundred and fifty.

Her most prized cat Sultan sits at the center of the painting.  Sultan was a $3,000 feline Jonson from Paris.  The artist spent three years sketching the individual cats in preparation for the painting.

Kate Birdsall Johnson died just two years after the painting was finished and left $500,000 to be set aside in her will for the care of her cats after she was gone.
