Started in 2013, SHE RUNS Grand Rapids was created in an effort to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Title IX, becoming the first women's-only half marathon event in the state of Michigan.

Originally called Gazelle Girl,

SHE RUNS Grand Rapids continues to connect women through movement, and we envision it as a key part of the transformation toward healthier living in West Michigan, and intentionally engaging historically underrepresented communities - inviting not just any She who runs, but every She who runs!

Now, in 2023, the training for the 11th annual SHE RUNS GR race has started.

The entire race includes a half marathon, 10K, and a 5K. So, there is a length for everyone.

If you want to test your endurance this year by participating in the race, SHE RUNS GR provides several training resources including

  • meet-up opportunities
  • coaching options, and
  • lists of all of the running and walking groups in the area.

Some of the running and walking groups you can join are:

  • Holland Running Club
  • Hot Girls Walk Grand Rapids
  • Grand Rapids Diry Herd
  • Gazelle Sports Urban Herd
  • Lyon Street Run Club
  • Michigan Trail Runners and more.

If you need even more detailed help, SHE RUNS Grand Rapids also has a full daily program on how to prepare for each of the different types of races.

Plus, if you do not want to do it alone, you can create a 'Social Team',

with a minimum of five participants and no maximum! You'll name your team and all team members will be scored by the cross-country method of scoring. Plus, on event day, we'll recognize the top teams in four categories with some swag at the Awards Ceremony: largest team, best team event day kit, fastest team, and most unhurried team.

You have plenty of time to sign up since the race happens on April 30th throughout Downtown Grand Rapids.
