Sledding, Stuffed Animals, and School Lunches – Steve’s Daddy Tips (2-6-19)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first daddy tip is about having fun with your little outdoors during the winter. A lot of people might think that you need certain types of winter toys to have fun outside like a sled. Well, those people are wrong. All you need is a box or a piece of cardboard, or if you are really fancy, cookie sheet. When we thawed a little from the polar vortex Britt and I wanted to play with Charlotte in the snow so we grabbed a huge piece of cardboard and slid down our driveway. Sure l, it didn’t go fast, got really wet almost immediately and Charlotte didn’t have much fun, but it totally works in place of a sled for about 10 minutes until it is completely ruined.
- The next daddy tip is to give voices to all of your baby’s stuffed animals. Not only is it really fun for your baby, but you get to invent all of these personas and alter egos in the process! We have Investment Banker Bear. “The DOW closed up 172 points yesterday after a volatile day of trading” Then we have Dolly, the confused doll. “Are you da baby, or am I da baby?” and Charlotte’s favorite Minnie Mouse, which is just a higher pitch of Mickey Mouse “Ho ho, baby Charlotte, I sure do love you!” Plus the sooner you start doing the voices, the more your baby will expect them. And then when Britt goes to play Charlotte and Charlotte says “do the voice mommy” and then Britt can’t it’ll make me feel like the best stuffed animal player ever!
- And the final daddy tip this week is to learn to let go a little bit at a time. We just started to have Charlotte eat the food that the daycare provides and it’s kinda weird having someone else plan, prepare, and feed her food but you gotta let go. These little things are a natural part of growing up and you’ll have to start letting go sooner than you’d think. I mean, heck, Charlotte is barely over a year old and she’s already eating school lunches. But there is one bonus, you can start to sing the lunch lady song when you pick up your little one!
And now it’s time for an awesome dad joke!
