Spotted Lanternfly Spotted in Another Michigan County
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has confirmed that spotted lanternflies are in yet another Michigan county.
Earlier this year, the lanternfly had been confirmed in Monroe and Oakland counties, but it appears that they are spreading.
In a release Wednesday, officials said that they have confirmed lanternflies in Wayne County.
All three counties where the lanternfly has been confirmed so far are located in Southwest Michigan.
Thankfully, as of now, other neighboring counties such as Macomb, Lenawee, and Washtenaw have had no confirmed sightings at this time.
What To Do If You Find a Spotted Lanternfly in Michigan
If you find a spotted lanternfly or their eggs, MDARD asks that you take photos, note the date and time that you spotted them as well as the location, and then report it online.
You can also help rid the state of these pests by squishing any actual bugs that you see or, if you see an egg mass, scraping it off of the surface, and then place it in a plastic bag with hand sanitizer in it.
