Steve’s Tips For Brand New Daddys (6-13-18)
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- Today’s first Daddy Tip is a neat trick that a nurse gave us at the pediatrician’s office. Charlotte was getting a dose of antibiotics for her latest ear infection and she did not like the taste at all! I know, baby girl it’s gross. She kept spitting out the medicine, so the nurse told us to grab her pacifier. She put the pacifier in Charlotte’s mouth and lifted up the corner and stuck the plunger with the medicine in the side of her mouth. Turns out that Charlotte thought it was part of her pacifier and just kept chewing on it and swallowed the medicine without a fuss! Easy Peezy!
- The next tip I stole from a friend who is a new mother. She’s a working mom and also has her daughter in daycare. She works in the afternoons and would always wait until right before she had to go to work before dropping her daughter off at daycare. She told me that about once a week she will drop her daughter off an hour early to daycare so she can go sit down at a restaurant and grab some lunch and have some much needed alone time for herself. So if you have your little one in daycare, don’t feel bad about taking advantage of what you are already are paying for and give yourself a little bit of me time now and again by dropping him or her off early or picking them up a tad later than normal.
- The final tip, I have been holding in for over a week. I’ve wanted to talk about this one so badly! OK, here goes. My final tip is you shouldn’t get freaked out if your baby’s butt crack seems to go really far up their back. Seriously, go take a look, especially if you have a girl. That crack will go up much further than you think it should! I kept telling my wife about it and she thought I was crazy, but finally, after one of Charlotte’s bathes I get a text that says “OMG you are right, that is a long crack!” I died laughing and instantly went to google and typed in “Do babies have long butt cracks?” It turns out that it is a very common question and they do have long cracks, especially girls! Good news is that they grow into their butts and cracks, so you don’t have to worry about it. There, now you don’t have to google that weird question yourself.
And now it’s time to finish off my daddy tips with an awesome Dad Joke!
Q: Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon?
