No More Swimming, But Fun Remains at MLK Park Pool
It’s always a little bit of a bummer when your summer fun gets cut short, especially when the temperatures are still soaring.
That’s the case at one pool in Grand Rapids that is closing early for the season due to a technical the Pool at Martin Luther King Jr. Park Grand Rapids, which has officially closed for the season due to a broken pump.
The malfunctioning pump means the pool water can’t be properly filtered, making it unsafe for swimmers. Unfortunately, by the time repairs could be made and the water retested, the season would already be over.
All city pools are scheduled to close on August 16, so reopening just isn’t practical.
But staff at MLK Park aren’t letting the early closure stop the summer vibes. They’ve kept the pool area active by offering concessions, cold refreshments, and outdoor games for kids and families to enjoy.
Even without swimming, the space is still serving as an important community hub during these final weeks of break.
The good news? The yard games and snack stand will remain open through August 16, giving everyone in the neighborhood a chance to soak up a little more summer: pool or no pool.
