The Kent County Sheriff's Department is warning about a new twist on an old scam that is now showing up in West Michigan.
Not only are scammers calling victims, but they are also showing up on their doorsteps.
A scammer is calling parents in West Michigan, saying they have to pay a ransom or their child will be hurt.
The scam is similar to a scam that has preyed on the elderly, telling them that their grandchild is in jail and needs bail money.
This has been all over Facebook, a $100 bill is left under someone's wiper on their car while it's parked in a public parking lot. The driver notices the bill after she already got in and started the car, she gets out to retrieve it, then someone jumps in her car and drives off. It's on Facebook so it must be true, right?
