Team Tommy Charity Garage Sale Is Rallying To Cure Pediatric Brain Cancer
Who doesn't love garage sales? Who doesn't love helping local charities? No one, that's who! This week you can combine both of these excellent activities at the Team Tommy Charity Garage Sale! This Thursday through Saturday in the Rolling Hills Neighborhood in Hudsonville, you can help raise money to cure pediatric brain cancer and find some great deals in the process!
A few months ago we spoke with Amanda about her son Tommy's battle with pediatric brain cancer. You can listen to her son's story on our podcast from March.
Tommy Ruddy was a thrill seeking, spunky, 5 year old boy who lived in the Rolling Hills Neighborhood. On August 12, 2016 he was diagnosed with DIPG, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a rare form of brainstem cancer, which has a 0% survival rate and no known cure. Tommy fought a valiant fight, but this monster was vicious and stole him from our lives in just 11 short weeks.
With just 4% of all federal funding going to pediatric cancer research, and a mere 1% of that going to brain cancers, DIPG is left with next to zero. Tommy’s parents, Tom and Amanda, have made it their mission to fight back and to raise awareness and funding so someday no family has to endure this. They are proud to have partnered with The ChadTough Foundation in fulfilling this mission, as the Carr Family has built an amazing organization to honor their son Chad, who also succumbed to this disease.
