Looking at these pictures from the Michigan State Police it's safe to say the teen driver is lucky to be alive and able to walk away from this crash with just minor injuries.
According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services,
motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for adolescents.
Three out of five accidental deaths for teens ages 16-20 are due to motor vehicle crashes.
Teen drivers are four times more likely than adult drivers to be involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Where Did The Crash Happen?
The crash happened Thursday, January 12, 2023 on southbound US-131 at 76th Street in Grand Rapids.
What Caused The Crash?
According to the Michigan State Police, witnesses say the teen driver was traveling at a high rate of speed on US-131 when they lost control of the vehicle and started to go off the highway.
I'm not sure what a high rate of speed is to most people, but on US-131 people are always hauling going at least 80-85 MPH, so I have to wonder just how fast were they traveling before losing control.
After going off the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the building causing damage to the outside wall.
The vehicle finally came to a stop after it landed on its roof.
