Speeding is another major contributor to traffic deaths in Michigan.

Excessive speed reduces the driver's ability to react to sudden changes in road conditions and increases the severity of crashes.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning highlighted that speeding-related fatalities have remained consistently high.

Distracted driving, particularly the use of cell phones while driving, has also been identified as a significant factor in traffic fatalities.

The Michigan State Police reported an increase in accidents attributed to drivers not paying attention to the road, often due to texting or other distractions.

Distracted driving compromises the driver's focus and reaction time, leading to deadly consequences.

Other contributing factors to traffic fatalities include reckless driving and failure to wear seat belts.

Reckless driving behaviors, such as aggressive driving and running red lights, have been linked to fatal accidents.

A notable percentage of fatalities involved occupants who were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, highlighting the importance of seat belt use in saving lives.

My Cousin David Allen was hit and died several months later from injuries after a intoxicated woman ran a red light and struck him.

He left behind a wife, two young daughters and a family that loved him deeply.

This tragedy could have been prevented if the woman that hit him didn't make the irresponsible and reckless choice of drinking and then driving.
