Watch: Michigan State Police Help Corral Escaped Longhorn in Barry County
Police officers in Michigan have been busy in recent months. Not just with crimes, and car crashes, and "regular" police business, but with animal rescues.

A couple of weeks ago, Kent County Sheriff's deputies helped free a bald eagle that was caught in a fence. Back in February, Michigan State Police rescued a deer that got hung up while trying to jump over someone's fence. And in late January, the Michigan State Police helped locate and rescue a missing donkey named Dolly Parton.
Now, some troopers from the Michigan State Police Wayland post have their own animal rescue tale to tell, and it's not one that you would expect to see happen in Michigan.

MSP Fifth District posted a video showing part of the rescue, which took place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. They joked that Michigan State Police troopers are now "basically running a wildlife rodeo at this point."

Police were called to the scene after receiving a report of an escaped Texas longhorn. They arrived on the scene and, with the help of the longhorn's owner, were able to safely corral him back to where he belonged.
Solid work, though I do question their tactic slightly. Do cows usually come when you whistle for them? I grew up spending a lot of time on a dairy farm, and those cows didn't listen to anything. But, maybe longhorns are different?
