While it's common that boys learn about camping and hunting as kids, sometimes girls are left out of the fun. So, if you're looking to take your fun outside this summer, but you're not quite the expert when it comes to the great outdoors, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering classes to help you become the Outdoors-woman of your dreams.

The weekend courses are returning this summer after a hiatus, and according to their website, participants select their program choices from a list of courses offered during the workshop. The workshop provides opportunities in three general program areas: shooting and hunting, fishing, and eco-sports, such as kayaking, camping or orienteering. The instruction is focused on the needs of learners 18 years and older. All classes are taught in a very "hands-on" way.

If you're interested in participating, one course will be offered at Bay Cliff Health Camp, which is about 30 miles north of Marquette. If you'd like to attend this session, it's going on June 3-5, and you can register here.

Or, if you'd rather go later in the summer, they're offering a second session at Ralph A Macmullan Conf. Center in Roscommon on August 26-28th, and you can register for that session here.

How much will the classes cost?

Each weekend session will run $225, and includes food and lodging for the weekend as well as your course registration. The deadline for registration is May 23rd. The programs typically fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged.

Now is your time to shine, what skills will you learn this summer thanks to Michigan DNR?
