And every time someone asks me what I want to do for my first Mother's Day, I always find myself at a loss. I have my son, my husband and our incredible family. What else can I ask for? (Maybe I'll have more wishes in a few years.)
And since Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend, and it’s time to show our Michigan moms some well-deserved love and appreciation. While traditional gifts like chocolate and flowers are always sweet gestures, what truly warms a Michigan mother’s heart might surprise you.

According to a recent study focusing on mothers’ wishes across the nation, Michigan moms have spoken loud and clear: what they desire most is a meaningful family outing. In fact, Michigan is among 26 states where moms prioritize quality time with their loved ones over material gifts.
For nearly 60% of moms, it’s not about the physical presents; they value experiences and personal interactions above all else. This sentiment resonates deeply with the mothers of Michigan, who cherish moments spent together with their families more than any material possession. And It's hard to argue, my favorite moments are worth more to me than any present you could buy off a list on Amazon.
What’s particularly heart warming is that a whopping 90% of moms surveyed expressed that they don’t expect Mother’s Day recognition from anyone outside their immediate family circle. This means that the most significant acknowledgment comes from those who know them best—their loved ones.
Even more surprising is that 87% of moms wouldn’t feel disappointed if they didn’t receive social media shout-outs on Mother’s Day. It’s a refreshing reminder that genuine connections and authentic moments hold far more weight than virtual validations.
So, what’s the key to making Mother’s Day truly special for the amazing moms of Michigan? It’s simple: make memories together. Half of the moms surveyed emphasized that spending quality time with their families is the ultimate gift they could receive on Mother’s Day.
