Yesterday we informed you about an armed stand-off in Spring Lake Township. An armed suspect barricaded himself inside a house near Spring Lake for more than 16 hours.

Here is the original article.

The Ottawa County Sherriff's department handled the stand-off for 16 hours which prompted a shelter in place order for nearby residents. The incident occurred at a house house on Palm Drive near Hoffmaster Drive in Spring Lake Township.

An attempted traffic stop resulted in a short pursuit of a wanted man. He was wanted on a felony warrant. The terse chase with deputies culminated with the man going inside a house. A woman who is in a relationship with the suspect was inside the house but later exited unharmed around 6 a.m.

After hours of negotiations, the man gave himself up around 6:50 p.m. and was arrested. Neither he nor anyone else was hurt.

His name has not been released yet. He was treated medically and held in the Ottawa County jail. After intervention, the stand off ended peacefully.

He faces charges of unlawful imprisonment, being a felon in possession of a firearm, felonious assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, resisting and obstructing police and fleeing and eluding police. He will be charged as a habitual offender. He is to be arraigned today.

Residents near the house were asked to stay clear of the area and Palm Drive was closed during the interruption. Wednesday evening, after the shelter-in-place was lifted, authorities thanked neighbors for their cooperation.
