Van Andel Arena’s Liquor License Suspended for 4 Griffins Games

If you're planning to enjoy an adult beverage at a Griffin's game this month, heads-up that Van Andel Arena's liquor license is suspended during four upcoming games.

MLive reports no alcoholic beverages will be sold anywhere on Van Andel Arena's premises at the Oct. 23, 25, 26 and 30 Griffin's games.

In addition to the stands, alcohol cannot be served or consumed in suites or hospitality areas. In accordance with the arena's policies, no alcohol may be brought in the arena at any time.

The suspension follows a violation that occurred in March in which two underage patrons were able to purchase alcohol at the arena.

Van Andel Arena said in a statement,

We regret the impact that this ruling may have on the Griffins and their loyal fans.

The Van Andel Arena has strict policies in place related to liquor sales and rigorous training programs for all employees and volunteers. However, during a Grand Rapids Police Department operation at a Grand Rapids Griffins game on March 8, 2019, concessions staff and volunteers checked but failed to validate the vertical licenses of two patrons attempting to purchase alcoholic beverages, and those patrons were served.

According to MLive the arena paid a fine of $3,800 for the violations.
