Eat any veggie trays over Father's Day weekend? You might want to look into this.

Del Monte has recalled fresh-cut vegetable trays that are suspected to be the source of a parasite outbreak.

The FDA has been investigating Cyclospora illnesses associated with Del Monte 6oz, 12oz, and 28oz vegetable trays containing broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and dill dip that were sold in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana.

What is Cyclosporiasis?

According to the CDC,

Cyclosporiasis an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis.

People can become infected with Cyclospora by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite. People living or traveling in countries where cyclosporiasis is endemic may be at increased risk for infection.

The expiration date on the recalled products is June 17, 2018 or earlier.

The veggie trays were sold at  Kwik Trip, Kwik Star, Demond’s, Sentry, Potash, Meehan’s, Country Market, FoodMax Supermarket and Peapod locations.

So far, which ingredient is carrying the parasite has not been identified.

The FDA advises that anyone who has purchased the trays to discard them immediately; anyone having diarrhea for more than three days should contact a health care professional.
