If you've ever travelled outside of Michigan and experienced the wonders of Waffle House, you've probably been waiting years for one to pop up in Grand Rapids.

Unfortunately, contrary to what AI says, we don't have one here in West Michigan (or in Michigan at all) - yet.

Waffle House in the Midwest

While Waffle House is arguably more popular in southern states, the Midwest has its fair share of locations. Waffle Houses can be found in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Missouri, and Kansas (just to name a few).

But Waffle House has yet to make its way to the northern Midwest states like Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

Does Grand Rapids Have a Waffle House?

You wouldn't know that, though, if you asked AI. (And this is why you shouldn't believe everything that AI tells you.)

In a screenshot posted to the Grand Rapids subreddit recently by user throwawayblueline, they pointed out that the robots think that we have one here. But there are a lot of clues that should tell you that this answer isn't accurate.

Billions of dollars have been sunk into AI...

First of all, there's the fact that those of us who live here know that there isn't a Waffle House anywhere near GR. But then, as you read the response, there's more that points to how wrong this answer is.

There's the fact that it refers to as "the East Beltline area of Grand Rapids". That's... not a place. We'll refer to things being "on the Beltline" or "just off of the Beltline", but "East Beltline" isn't an area of town.

Then, there's the address itself. "5400 N. Beltline Ave. NE". North Beltline isn't a thing. If you Google the address, it'll take you to 5400 E. Beltline Ave. NE, which is essentially the corner of the Beltline and Plainfield, just before the Beltline becomes Northland Dr.

Last, but certainly not least, is the answer's reference to the airport. It says that while the location is not "technically in the airport, it's a convenient choice for travelers needing a meal before or after flying from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport". Um... nope. Not even close. Even if the fictional Waffle House WAS at the fictional address, it wouldn't be anywhere near the airport.

Grand Rapidians React to AI Thinking We Have a Waffle House

The comment section of the post on Reddit is just as incredible as you'd expect.

User spaceursid chimed in and immediately cracked me up with,

You never been to the secret waffle house inside the airport?

CharcoalGreyWolf made a comment that will only be funny to those of us who are fans of Douglas Adams' books, saying,

Do you have to use an inter dimensional portal to get to this Waffle House?

Maybe Grand Rapids is where the Restaurant At The End Of the Universe is.

The lesson here, friends, is don't trust everything you read on the internet, and especially not everything that AI tells you.

This is What AI Thinks a Typical Day in Grand Rapids, Michigan Looks Like

I asked Canva's Magic Studio to help me out and show me what it thought a typical day in Grand RapidsMichigan looks like. It's... wild. And further shows that while AI can be useful, it's not as good as an actual, skilled human.
