It's never a good thing to run your car into a police cruiser. It's even worse when you're driving a stolen Kia.

The Teen Aged 'KIA Boyz' Joy Ride Came To An Abrupt End

As we reported earlier, several of the Kia thieves that have been pilfering cars around the area were busted Tuesday. But it's how they were busted that was rather interesting. With GRPD in hot pursuit, the teens turned a corner and smacked right into another police cruiser trying to head them off at the pass.

The pursuit of the Kia Sportage was described by officials as 'low speed', which gratefully meant that no one was hurt in the collision, which resulted in the arrest of three teenagers aged 14 and 15.

The Kia Sportage the teens are driving was stolen earlier Tuesday in Walker, and was spotted by an officer driving near Lafayette Street SE and Highland.

The teens immediately fled the vehicle after the crash, and were caught on foot by officers shortly thereafter.

The KIA Thefts Began In May, And Have Been Part Of A TikTok Trend

According to officals at the GRPD, between May 1 and July 7, GRPD reported 256 thefts and attempted thefts of Kias and Hyundais in the City of Grand Rapids. That is nearly four a day.

Most of the time, the thieves go on a joyride, and record their exploits for posting on the social media video site TikTok. These three won't be posting again anytime soon, but GRPD is not under any illusion the trend of swiping Kias is over for good.
