The storm has raised Michigan's chances of seeing the northern lights tonight.

The storm ranks a four on a one to five scale.

9 & 10 News reports it is the strongest solar storm since the fall of 2013. It has been almost 10 years since a category five storm solar storm was observed.

NASA explains that strong solar storms can cause damage to satellites and temporary losses of power. The storms also create an enhanced view of the northern lights (Aurora Borealis).

No major disruptions are being predicted for this solar storm, but there will be an increased opportunity to see the northern lights tonight, especially if the current forecast of clear skies holds.
