Apartment Fire Forces Mom and Kids to Leap for Their Lives in Kentwood
A West Michigan mom and her two kids had to jump from their second story apartment balcony to the ground to escape an apartment fire.

The fire started around 7:30am on Thursday October 16.
Neighbors across the hall were cooking food on the stove top when combustible items that were too close to the heat caused them to catch on fire.

The neighbors that were inside cooking tried to put out the fire by moving it away from the stove and into the hallway which ended up being a terrible idea.
As the fire quickly spread beyond control the neighbors started pounding on Jennifer Diederik's door alerting her to the dire situation.
By the time that happened the fire was already out of control and Jennifer and her two kids couldn't escape from the apartment door and had to make the dangerous jump from the balcony to try and escape.
Jennifer had to toss her kids down to a woman below who thankfully caught them.
In total 12 units at Breton Court Apartments were affected by the fire.
Jennifer and her kids have not been allowed to go back to their apartment unit, in the meantime a family member created a GoFundMe to help her and the kids out.
Jennifer shared her ring camera footage which shows just how scary this entire incident was and how much worse things could have been.
