West Michigan really said, “Yes, we’ll take all the fried chicken.”

As if new Popeyes locations popping up in Wyoming and Jenison, and Raising Cane’s finally landing in Kentwood back in November wasn’t enough, we can officially add another Southern friend chicken favorite to the list. Michigan’s very first Bojangles opened its doors today, (Tuesday, February 3rd) in Wyoming.

The North Carolina based chain opened their doors for the first time at 5:30 this morning at 1730 28th Street near Burlingame Avenue. The location was previously a short lived Taco Johns.

If you’ve ever spent time down South, you already know that Michigan getting our own Bojangles location is kind of a big deal. Bojangles has a loyal following for a reason, and now West Michiganders get to see what all the hype is about without crossing a state line.

To celebrate the grand opening, Bojangles is running sweepstakes and giveaways, including a chance to win breakfast for a year if you fill out a survey. (Great news for everyone who can’t line up all day to be one of the first in line)

If you’re new to Bojangles, they known for their incredible scratch made biscuits. They also serve fried chicken and tenders, Sweet iced tea, and unlike the other chicken chains they also offer a full breakfast menu.

And then there are the sides and extras that feel very Southern, like peach cobbler, baked macaroni and cheese, and milkshakes. Sauce lovers will also have some choices to explore, including house made ranch, peach honey pepper, and jalapeño ranch.

The Wyoming location also comes with something called a “biscuit theater,” which means you can actually watch the biscuits being made from scratch while you wait, which is fun, especially for those with kids.

This location is owned by Michigan based Meritage Hospitality Group, the same company behind Morning Belle, Blue Porch, and several Wendy’s locations around the area. And while they haven’t shared exact details yet, Meritage has said this won’t be the only Bojangles in Michigan. More locations are planned both in state and beyond.

Between Popeyes' expansion, Raising Cane’s arrival, and now Bojangles officially joining the mix, it’s clear West Michigan is becoming a very serious fast-food chicken region. (And as a southern transplant, this is great news.)
