We are in the thick of a cold, miserable West Michigan winter. Sure, the snow is pretty- but if you're an outdoor lover like me, you're probably itching to get outside and stretch your legs. Or, if you have little ones in the house- looking for ideas to keep them from driving you insane.

Thankfully, Grand Rapids is just as prepared for the cold winter months as we are to play in the summer sun, so you have some great options to kick that cabin fever out the door.

Here are a few ideas to beat cabin fever in Grand Rapids, Michigan:

Explore the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park: When I first moved to West Michigan, my husband brought me to the Meijer gardens to enjoy the greenhouse warmth after some snow fatigue. You can walk through the tropical conservatory or check out the seasonal exhibits for a warm escape from winter.

Take a stroll through one of the Malls: Woodland or Rivertown Crossings, whichever your preference- the mall makes a great place to walk around and get some steps in. Plus, you can always treat yourself with something to find a little extra serotonin.

Visit the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM): Forget about what's waiting for your outside- Stroll through inspiring exhibits and enjoy a relaxing afternoon indoors. Bonus: You can visit for free on Tuesdays, and on Thursdays between 5-8pm.

Try a New Craft Brewery: Grand Rapids is known as “Beer City,” so explore local favorites like Founders, Brewery Vivant, or City Built Brewing. Or, find one off the beaten trails like one of my favorites to visit year-round, Farmhaus Cider.

Take a Fitness or Yoga Class: Comfort food is great this time of year, so maybe you need to burn some calories. Many studios, like Funky Buddha Yoga and Planet Fitness, offer drop-in sessions to get your body moving and lift your mood.

Plan a Winter Hike: Head to Blandford Nature Center or Millennium Park for a snowy walk through nature trails.
