The Detroit Tigers took on the New York Yankees at Comerica and Tiger's first baseman Miguel Cabrera was trying to become the 33rd player in Major League Baseball history to get 3,000 hits.

What Happened In Today's Game?

During Cabrera's first plate appearance in the first inning, he flew out. In his next two at-bats, Cabrera went down swinging. In the bottom of the 8th, Cabrera had one more chance at history when he faced New York Yankees pitcher Lucas Luetge. Yankees manager Aaron Boone decided to intentionally walk Cabrera to the open first base. That's when Tiger fans in attendance started booing.

When Could Miguel Cabrera Get His 3,000th Career Hit?

Tiger fans have a great shot of seeing Miguel Cabrera get his 3,000th career hit this weekend as the Tigers take on the Colorado Rockies at home on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If Cabrera gets one more hit he would become the seventh player in MLB history with 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. He also would become the first Venezuelan-born and seventh Latino to reach the 3,000-hit mark, a list that includes Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Rod Carew, as well as Rafael Palmeiro, Alex Rodríguez, Adrián Beltré, and Albert Pujols.
