This past Saturday, many people in Michigan were wearing green and enjoying the warm weather for the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

If you had a few too many green beers, you might not have noticed that the sky was super hazy in West Michigan.

The air quality was so poor that Grand Rapids had the worst air quality in all of America that day.
In the past, Canadian wildfires were often responsible for the poor air quality, but that was not the case on Saturday.

So, if we can't blame Canada for the dusty skies, then who can we blame?
We can blame strong winds and wildfires that occurred over the Plains states and were sent up into the atmosphere, ultimately making their way to Michigan.
Weather always amazes me at what it can do.
The fact that dust was able to get kicked up that high into our atmosphere and make travel all the way to us here in Michigan.

WZZM 13 Meteorologist Samantha Jacques offered up some advice on what to do when bad air quality is in the forecast.
- Limit outdoor activities, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions.
- Consider wearing a mask if you must be outside for prolonged periods if you are sensitive to the dust.
- Keep windows closed to prevent dust from entering your home.
