This first weekend of December will feature Christmas lights, music, animals, a bar crawl, an open house, ballet and an implosion! Something for all!

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    Christmas Lite Show

    Cost: Tickets start at $20

    This is West Michigan's largest, animated, drive thru light show, which is now celebrating it's 20th year of entertaining people of all ages. Enjoy nearly two miles, over a million lights, animated displays, lighted tunnels, and more. On select evenings, you can stop at the Santa house, and give him your wish list!

    Light Up Downtown - Winter Season Kickoff

    Friday, December 1st, 2017 - 5:00 pm-7:00 pm

    Cost: Free

    Join in the holiday themed festivities as the City of Grand Rapids kicks off the season with the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. All of the holiday lights in Downtown GR switch on at 5:45 pm, followed by skating at the Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink (Kids, 17 and under, skate free all night). Santa and Mrs. Claus will be around to take professional photos with the whole family.

    Hockey: The Grand Rapids Griffins vs. The Texas Stars

    The Grand Rapids Griffins host the Texas Stars on Friday night at the Van Andel Arena. It’s a Friday night game, so that means $2 beers and $2 hot dogs. There will also be a Red Kettle jersey auction after the game.

    Free holiday event for the community! Visit Santa and his reindeer. Plus, crafts, music, ice carving demonstrations, and animals getting presents! Kids get to make their own enrichment for the animals. Christmas for the Animals showcases a special kind of animal care that keeps the animals engaged, interested in their environment and behaving as they would in the wild.

    The Pontiac Silverdome Implosion

    Pontiac Silverdome (Public parking and viewing area for the demolition at the Oakland County Water Resource Commission site at 155 N. Opdyke. Vehicles must be parked by 8:15 am.)

    Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 - 8:30 am

    The Pontiac Silverdome, former home of the Detroit Lions and Pistons, is set to be imploded on Sunday. The implosion at 8:30 am will be part of the first phase. The implosion will break the metal beams at the perimeter of the stadium that were used to keep the roof inflated. The remaining demolition will be done in phases during the next year. If you can’t make it to Pontiac, the event is scheduled to be broadcast live on the City of Pontiac FaceBook page.
