It’s the first weekend of Summer! There are a lot of events to help you get in some physical activity -- biking, walking, yoga, and running. There is also a record and CD show, events at the zoo, a water festival, a Harry Potter festival and Sunday brunch, along with some fundraisers.

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    Meijer State Games of Michigan

    The Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport, Olympic-style event that welcomes all athletes regardless of age or ability. An estimated 7,500+ athletes from all corners of Michigan will come and represent 40+ sports and compete in the 7th annual Meijer State Games of Michigan. The Opening Ceremony will be on Friday, June 22nd at 7:30 at East Kentwood High School (6230 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, MI 49508).

    MSU Gran Fondo 2018

    Saturday, June 23rd, 2018 - 8:00 am-5:00 pm

    Cost: Each rider is encouraged to raise at least $50 prior to the ride.

    The MSU Gran Fondo is a timed, non-competitive cycling event to support Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s skin cancer awareness, prevention and research. Gran Fondo, which means "big ride" is a rolling party that offers four route options for cyclists of any skill level. Individuals or teams will ride along scenic routes from downtown Grand Rapids to Lake Michigan and enjoy gourmet food stops along the way. Riders will return to the Finish Line Festival with music, craft brews and a grand feast. Route options: Family Ride (10-12 miles), 25, 40 or 80-mile courses. Start times vary by distance.

    Join Yoga Fever for a 40 minute all levels yoga flow followed by a 2 mile trail run at Robinettes! The yoga class will be on the front lawn of the apple orchard followed by a 2 mile trail run (at your own pace). This event will be led by runner/yoga enthusiast and YF instructor, Vanessa. We know how important getting outside and being in nature is during the most beautiful season in West Michigan. Let's create the perfect marriage of yoga and trail running.     The Grand River Watershed Arts and Music Council presents their annual Grand River Water Festival at Riverside Park. This one-day music festival combines local and regional music with environmental speakers and local vendors and nonprofit organizations that provide a variety of environmental services and engagement opportunities. The event is free and open to all ages.

    Harry Potter in the Park Festival

    Celebrate all things Harry Potter with this year's "Tri Wizard" theme. The magic will begin at 3:00 PM. Your ticket includes entry into the park where you will be given the wizarding experience of the summer. This ticket includes all onstage events, snakes and owls, arts and crafts, demonstrations, house points competition, strolling through the Wizards and Wands Emporium, Horcrux Hunt, Gnome Tossing, and much more. Please note that a seperate ticket will be needed for the following events: Quidditch Training w/ the GVSU Grindylows, Swish and Flick Painting, and Herbology*. Children 5 and under will have free park entry with seperate tickets required for above noted sections. Once again we will be offering you an opportunity to race in the Arthur Weasley Duck Race.

Hurry though we are only serving brunch for a short 10 week run. So be sure to mark your calendars!

    Family Promise of Grand Rapids is hosting their 1st annual family community event called Family Frolic at the Zoo! There will be raffles, prizes, a scavenger hunt for kids and of course ANIMALS! All ages are welcome.  Help raise money for children and families who are experiencing homelessness. A generous foundation and our amazing sponsors have offered a $20,000 match to help families move home! Will you join us in ending homelessness…one family at a time!?
