It was a few weeks ago when we learned JCPenney would be shutting down about 140 of their stores nationwide but Friday morning the company announced what ones we'd be losing.

In a news release, JCPenney revealed that 138 stores would be closing and seven of them are in Michigan, including the one in Holland which is at the Westshore Mall.

JCPenney also stated that most of the stores will begin liquidating on April 17th.

The other affected stores in Michigan include:

  • Battle Creek
  • Escanaba
  • Houghton
  • Kingsford
  • Midland
  • Sault Ste. Marie

Around 5,000 employees will be losing their jobs and the company said that they would be providing "outplacement support services" for those who won't be working for JCPenney any longer. The layoffs will mostly occur in June.
