The Washington Post has created a list of the top college prep public high schools in the United States.  The list ranks the top 1,900 high schools.  8 West Michigan high schools have made the list.

Determining the top college prep schools is a difficult task with many factors to consider.

The Washington Post explains their list:

The formula is simple: Divide the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests a school gave in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors.  While not a measure of the overall quality of the school, the rating can reveal the level of a high school’s commitment to preparing average students for college.

There's no perfect method, but this is a good start.  Congrats to all of the West Michigan schools on the list!

Here are the 8 West Michigan schools:

  • Black River - Holland
  • East Grand Rapids
  • Forest Hills Central
  • Jenison
  • Lowell
  • Mona Shores
  • Portage Central
  • Portage Northern
