80-Foot Mural Unveiled At Ford Airport

ArtPrize may have been canceled this year, but art goes on, here's a look at a new mural at GRR.

Painted by longtime Grand Rapids artist Reb Roberts, the 80-foot mural is called, 'Chickens Don't Fly Too Much', which is in keeping with Roberts' light hearted style. It will be on the ramp leading to Concourse A after clearing security.

According to the Grand Rapids Business Journal, the mural is the second in a series of art work to be funded by a grant from the Frey Foundation.

“West Michigan wants to be a destination for art, and the airport is the gateway to our community. To have a venue to do artwork for people who are coming and going from around the globe is really an open window for an artist," Roberts told the GRBJ.

Roberts ran Sanctuary Folk Art downtown for years, and painted the electrical boxes in the Creston neighborhood as part of another public arts project. Reb also just completed the 'Cloud Corner' mural downtown at the corner of Ionia and Pearl Street.
