A 105-Year-Old Downtown Grand Rapids Newsstand Set To Reopen At New Location
After closing it's doors at the beginning of 2017, Elliott's News has announced that they will be reopening in McKay Tower sometime in September.
It almost seems like fate that Elliott's is moving to McKay Tower because the newsstand was originally located in front of the tower. The stand opened in 1912 and can now celebrate its 105th birthday at its original home!
Bill Bennett, the owner of Elliott's News, will be back downtown with his very unique sense of humor for all to enjoy! (If you've been a patron of the shop at its old location, you know exactly what we are talking about...)
“We are excited to be back in business,” says Bennett. “I was toying with the idea of retiring, but I greatly miss the people of downtown and still believe there is a need for our services. It just feels natural to be in downtown. The McKay Tower folks made a good deal for me to return, so I’m eager to get back to it.”
The new store will be a little smaller than the previous location at 50 Monroe, but it will feature the same types of products that were sold (newspapers, magazines, candy, drinks, tobacco, etc.)
Elliott's News will be located in McKay Tower’s first-floor lobby in the space behind Freshii.
