Yesterday, the World Health Organization released some devastating news that bacon, sausage and other processed meats are ranked with asbestos and tobacco smoking for causing cancer. As bad as cigarttes?!?

A new study was done by 22 scientists who were invited by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer to look at the link between eating processed meat and red meat and 16 types of cancer.

These 22 scientists spent a week studying decades of research from more than four countries, including the U.S., and they “classified consumption of processed meat as ‘carcinogenic to humans’ on the basis of sufficient evidence for colorectal cancer.”

Colon and rectal cancer has the second highest estimated deaths for cancer types behind lung cancer, causing almost 50,000 deaths per year. Having 3.5 ounces of red meat everyday increases the risk for colon and rectal cancer by 17 percent and 1.8 ounces of processed meats by 18 percent.

This information was agreed upon by the majority of the World Health Organization's panel, but the final decision was not unanimous. For more information, you can head here.
