The Blind Pig music venue in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been accused of racism for canceling a show by Detroit rapper Sada Baby and booking another act on the same day.

The cancellation has sparked outrage with some and raised questions about the Blind Pig's booking practices.

What Happened?

According to a report from Mlive, Sada Baby's show was initially scheduled for Friday, July 5th, but the Blind Pig abruptly canceled it, citing staffing issues and concerns about potential security risks.

However, the venue then proceeded to book an emo group called Cardinal Rule for the same evening, leading to allegations of racial bias from Sada Baby's promoter, Polo Frost.

Frost claims that the Blind Pig's decision to cancel Sada Baby's show while accommodating Cardinal Rule on the same night is a clear indication of racial discrimination.

He argues that the venue's stated reasons for the cancellation, such as staffing concerns, are merely excuses to mask their underlying prejudice against the rapper's predominantly Black fan base.

It's a shame if the claims against the Blind Pig are true.

While looking up what band replaced Sada Baby on July 5th, I saw other musicians that were booked for upcoming shows at the Blind Pig.

One of them is a talented country artist named Mickey Guyton who was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

The Grammy nomination made Guyton the first Black female artist to be nominated in the country category.

Her show is coming up later this year on Wednesday, October 3rd.

There is no denying that racism is disgusting and sadly still exists.

I just struggle with the idea of a fan base having to be predominantly black or white for a particularly genre of music.

This is coming from a white guy from Howell, Michigan, a small town in Livingston County that is predominantly white who went to St. Andrews Hall in Detroit while in high school to see Bone Thugs-n-Harmony in concert.

I'd love to hear what you think about why the show was cancelled.

Send me a message.
