Irie Kitchen Is Closing, But They’ve Got Something Fresh Up Their Sleeve
While Grand Rapids has its fair share of incredible restaurants, your options are limited if you're looking for high-quality authentic Caribbean food.
That's where Irie Kitchen, located on Kalamazoo Ave just south of the M6, came into play. Their flavorful takes on street food and comfort classics are unlikely anything else you can find in West Michigan. I could go on for days about how great the carnival bread is, or how I'm obsessed with pop's lemonade (It's something about that kick.) So I will say that Irie's incredible dishes and homemade drinks made them an easy favorite for me and my husband.
However, fans of the restaurant got a surprising announcement earlier this month when a video posted to their social media announced that in early February, Irie Kitchen, as we know it, will no longer be open.
The video states that while the culinary masterminds behind the restaurant won't be gone for good, and instead they are changing their focus and bringing something new to the Grand Rapids community later this year.
Irie Kitchen also thanked their community and fans, saying they'd be serving up some of their favorite dishes over the upcoming weekends, until their final day on February 2nd. If you are planning to check them out for the first time before they're gone, I recommend the Jerk Alfredo with Pop's Lemonade, or if they bring it back- their iconic vegan sloppy joe.
They also teased in an email to customers that they will be showing off some of their future offerings during their final weekends, without saying what they're doing next or when it will be open. But no matter what it is, I'll be watching their socials for the next announcement.
