Detroit Highway Named For Aretha Franklin [Video]

Part of the Lodge Freeway in the Motor City will be named after the late soul legend, but I'm just bummed they didn't call it the 'Freeway of Love'.

Last year Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer gave the okay to a bill that would honor Aretha Franklin by designating a portion of Detroit’s Lodege Freeway (M-10) as the "Aretha L. Franklin Memorial Highway." Well, now it’s officially happened.

The highway was officially dedicated earlier this month, just a few days after the second anniversary of the Queen of Soul’s death.

The dedication included a line of pink Cadillacs, and her granddaughter’s sang, and her son Edward spoke. Several politicians attended the ceremony including Gov. Whitmer, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib.

The stretch of highway is located not far from her father’s New Bethel Baptist Church.

It's a big year for the estate of the Queen of Soul, as a biopic about her starring Jennifer Hudson is due out soon as well.
