Billy Strings Chooses Ionia for His Next Michigan Shows
For a minute there it seems like everyone really believed that West Michigan’s own Billy Strings might be one of the first artists to christen the brand new Acrisure Amphitheatre.
But instead Billy did something for his annual homecoming shows that feels more like him, he’s truly coming home.
After teasing an Ionia County homecoming for weeks, the bluegrass superstar made it official on Tuesday. Billy Strings will play two shows at the Ionia County Fairgrounds on Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29, just weeks after the Ionia Free Fair wraps up.
And fans are absolutely losing their minds.
This announcement comes less than a year after Billy sold out back to back shows at Van Andel Arena in May of 2025, proving once again that he could easily fill much larger venues, and probably do it multiple nights in a row.
Which is what makes this pair of shows feel so truly special. This really feels like a genuine thank you to the community that watched him grow up before the rest of the world caught on to his once in a generation talent.
Details are still limited about the pair of shows. It hasn’t been announced whether these will be standalone concerts or part of a larger event, but for most fans, that barely matters. Just the idea of seeing Billy Strings play a pair of shows at the Ionia County Fairgrounds is enough to send people scrambling to their calendars and getting ready to fight for tickets.
Speaking of, tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 am, and I have a strong feeling they won’t last long. This is going to be one of the hottest tickets in 2026. After all, Billy Strings could play anywhere. Instead, he’s choosing home.
