Dolly Parton isn't afraid to defend the actions of her god-daughter, Miley Cyrus, but she's also not about to offer the provocative singer advice!

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Dolly explains that she understands the reasoning behind Miley's decisions and that she's letting the star figure things out herself.

"Yeah, well I do [understand what Miley is going through], 'cause back in the day, doing my own things my own way, and dressing sexy and showing my cleavage and all that, I got a lot of criticism," Dolly said (quotes via PEOPLE). "Lots of people thought I was making a mistake and that I was just trashy, which I was."

Dolly continued, "So I did go through that, but I don't give her advice. Everyone has to walk this journey according to their own rules. That's what she's doing. And I lurve her."

As always, it's clear that the legendary country crooner has Miley's back.

"I've known her daddy the many years he's been in the business," Dolly added. "I've watched her grow up. She's a smart girl. She had to go to extremes to get her point across. I think she got the point across."

We're just relieved Dolly isn't talking about Miley's need to "murder Hannah Montana" anymore.
