In Calhoun County, 3 children were killed when a tree fell on top of the vehicle in.

Several other people were also injured and taken to the hospital, including one person who is in critical condition.

Further north, in places like Gaylord, ice storms caused major damage after trees were covered in ice, causing them to break and collapse to the ground.

For one radio station in Northern Michigan, the ice storm has caused them to go off the air.

Extreme Weather Causes Popular Michigan Radio Station's Tower to Collapse

Radio station 106 KHQ, located in Petoskey, was taken off the air on Sunday night after its massive 630-foot-high radio tower collapsed due to heavy ice that had formed on it from an ice storm in the area.

What Does A Radio Station Tower Do

A radio station tower, is a tall structure designed to support antennas that transmit radio signals, allowing for the broadcast of audio over a wide area.

The radio signals can then be received by radios and other devices.

When Will 106 KHQ Be Back On The Air

A radio tower going down like this is one of the absolute worst things that can happen.

I spoke with our radio engineer in Grand Rapids, and he told me that he had something similar happen back in the day and that it's possible for this to take up to a year from start to finish to get another tower back up and working.

In the meantime, hopefully they will be able to stream online and find a way to set up a broadcast on another station's tower so they can have something on the airwaves.
