If you recently attended the Flaming Lips concert at GLC Live by 20 Monroe, you may want to test for COVID.

A friend of mine attended the show on Saturday, June 29, and a few days later posted on social media that she had tested positive for COVID. At the time, I didn't think anything of it - I'd been reading that COVID cases were on the rise as the new FLiRT variant makes its way across the country.

But then, I saw a post on the Grand Rapids subreddit that made me realize that my friend's case of COVID might not be just a fluke. Just based on the comments on the thread made by Reddit user Shawnmelton, at least two dozen folks across West Michigan have come down with COVID since attending the show.

It could all be a coincidence, but... I'm thinking not so much. (Then again, I'm not a doctor or a scientist, so what do I know?)

While there were definitely some comments in the thread from people saying things like, "It's just a cold!" and "Everyone's going to get COVID at some point!" Others were appreciative that the OP took the time to post the PSA.

I just want to say, with great weariness, that I really appreciate this sort of PSA post. It's not judgmental, it's just 'went here, thing happened, people should know so they can test/check before holiday shenanigans,' which may not help due to time frame, but it sure doesn't hurt.

Definitely get tested if you were at the show and have any of the following symptoms:

  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion
  • Fever
  • Runny Nose
  • Headache
  • Body Aches

It's important to note that this is not the fault of any one person, the band, or the venue itself.

If you did contract COVID, once you're feeling better, be sure to check out these new spots that have opened in West Michigan so far this year.
