"Let's walk", says Christopher Swanson, the Genesee County Sheriff, as he took off his helmet, laid down his baton and joined protesters on Saturday.

The Sheriff approached the protesters and did something that no one was expecting, he asked the crowd what he and his officers should do and they responded by chanting "walk with us!"

The Sheriff took off his helmet and dropped his baton to march with the protests, stating that he wanted to make this a parade not a protest.  Protesters were delighted that the sheriff opened a dialog with them and showed his humanity by joining their cause.

Swanson gave out hugs, high fives, and handshakes to the protesters as he marched along with them.  According to the Detroit News "Swanson has been in the police force for more than two decades. He also served a part in the executive protection of former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden."

Flint was one of the few protests in large cities Michigan over the weekend that didn't turn into riots during the night.
