Glam it Forward: Over 200 West Michigan Girls Got Free Prom Dresses Thanks to Community Kindness
The second annual Glam It Forward prom dress giveaway, hosted by Mix 95.7, Two Men and a Truck, and Uptown Cheapskate was a massive success, helping girls across west Michigan 'shop' for a free to them prom dress, no questions asked.
The event happened on Saturday in Comstock Park inside Two Men and a Truck's warehouse, where dozens of displays and wardrobe boxes packed with over a thousand different dresses were waiting to find their forever home.
While it may have just been dozens of racks sitting in a warehouse from an outsider's prospective, it was truly a magical day that reminded girls that they're worthy and beautiful, and that doesn't have to cost a dime.
When the event started at 11am, there was a line around the building of excited girls who were ready to see what they could find, and as we got to know them as they shopped, we heard stories from all sorts of girls from all walks of life, and what brought them to the event:
After 4 hours, dozens of snacks, and a few happy tears as girls found their perfect fit:
We gave away 206 dresses to girls across West Michigan who needed them, and we are so humbled by the huge turnout we saw as the doors opened at 11am. This was a massive labor of love that couldn't have happened without the generosity of so many people.
Another big thank you to The Paul Mitchell School for offering discounted hair services for girls who attended, as well as tanning coupons from Hot Tropics in Comstock Park so girls could afford to complete their look for prom night. And of course, Big Joe and I couldn't have done this without Claire, Morgan, Kate and the entire Two Men and a Truck team, as well as the crew at Uptown Cheapskate for helping us make this happen.
Thank you, West Michigan, because of you 206 proms will be that much better.
