What’s Hiding Under 28th Street? Grand Rapids’ Underground Secret

Grand Rapids has plenty of secrets, but some of the ones you may not be aware of are living deep beneath 28th street.

At least, that's what a tiktok user discovered recently when they posted a video of themselves exploring what they are calling "secret tunnels" that are located below Grand Rapids' busiest street. But, what exactly are they leading to?

At the start of the video, user @shujaa.kinggg talks about 'discovering' a secret network of tunnels that run underneath 28th street. And without skipping a beat, he climbs down and show us what's inside.

(While he does show some defining spots that would give you an idea of where to find this, I'm playing stupid because I again encourage you not to try this on your own.)

And before long, the video poster shows themselves walking around in what appears to be a series of storm drains that are designed to keep 28th Street from ponding. Thankfully at the time of this video, it hadn't rained much but had he gone down there at another time, it could have been a much scarier scene.

Throughout the video @shujaa.kinggg complains of running into lots of spider webs and how narrow some of the tunnels become before decides to leave because it was a "workout". He says that he doesn't know where the tunnels go or how deep they are, but he does manage to find his way back to his original opening to escape.

So no, there aren't real secret tunnels under 28th street. However, there are some pretty scary drainage tunnels that you could probably get hurt in if you're not careful, and for some people: that's enough adventure.
