Wojczynski said people will steal a car, take it for a joyride and then abandon it on any street in the city. The sergeant warned of leaving your car running while not in it. You might be tempted to let your car heat up, however this is an invitation for someone looking for a free ride. He says, "Don't leave your keys in your vehicle."

GRPD stated that criminals will also lurk around car dealerships or auto body shops, break into the businesses, grab the keys from the lockbox and then steal the vehicles. They also state that a stolen car is a first step to more crime about to be committed.

Wojczynski also said there has been a "consistent problem with catalytic converter thefts".
